Project Details
Updated 07/09/26 · Provided via application · VerifiedThere is a lack of high-context communications professionals that can land roles in organisations looking to reduce AI x-risk. I will find the most skilled professionals in the space, and support them in transitioning their careers to full time roles in AI Safety, or help them fundraise for ambitious projects.
I will do this by providing regular coaching and help them put together a career transition plan. I will support them in understanding the ecosystem, making introductions to people in my network, sharing job opportunities, providing referrals and supporting with cause prioritization within AI Safety.
I will also support in actively searching for opportunities that otherwise would not come about. I found that demand for communications expertise is often unrealised. For example, at EAG Bay 2026, I came across several opportunities (without looking particularly hard). None of these were advertised on job boards, or on Swapcard profiles:
-
A communications hire at David Krueger’s org asked for introductions to someone who could provide media training
-
The authors of What Christians Should Know About AI (which reached large conservative audiences, incl. Steve Bannon) had not considered digital marketing, but were open to exploring it after discussion.
-
The organiser of Lighthaven (and similarly Mox, a new EA coworking space in SF) was looking for business-to-business marketing support
-
Meridian discussed potential paid campaigns to attract experienced professionals to their AI alignment programs
-
A marketer at High Impact Professionals expressed interest in running paid social media campaigns after my suggestion
Additionally, as AI Safety goes more and more mainstream, the number of incoming professionals, including communications professionals who are looking to contribute will grow. Currently, there is no dedicated fieldbuilding organisation focusing on this talent profile. This grant would allow for the seeding of such infrastructure that can effectively help incoming talent orient the field as the salience of AI Safety further increases.
Theory of Impact
Updated 07/09/26 · By grantmaking.aiMost AI Safety organisations don’t have dedicated communications and marketing staff, or have these roles filled by junior members of the team without a background in communications. By helping experienced communication professionals build context and an understanding of the field, they will be able to land key roles in AI Safety organisations or initiate new impactful projects.
This leads to outcomes such as
- Organisations being able to reach and communicate with their audience (e.g. policymakers) more effectively
- Orgs being able to get a larger number of people to take action (e.g. writing to their representatives)
- Fieldbuilding projects being able to attract better talent to their programs

I've worked with Gergo as his executive coach over a period of 6 months and can testify to his strong work ethic, in-depth understanding of AIS field-building/culture/ecosystem, and insatiable drive for both personal development and impact optimisation through reasoning transparency, epistemic humility, and a scout mindset.
In addition to endorsing Gergo's person, I support the multiplier effect of supporting experienced communication professionals looking to reduce AI x-risks. As an AIS career advisor myself, having had >180 career coaching calls with >80 experienced professionals, I've witnessed first hand the counterfactual impact of a coaching relationship that offers warm intros, expedites AIS context-acquisition, helps identify/prepare for new roles, and stress-test/get funding for new impactful projects.
