Updated 07/13/26 · Provided via application · VerifiedThree members of PauseAI Canada would like to travel to London from Sept 4-8 to attend PauseCon 2026 on Sept 5-7 (we want a travel day on either end). We will require expenses for travel, food, one night's accommodation, and miscellaneous expenses.
At the conference we expect to share knowledge and gain skills and connections that will help us spread AI awareness and activism in our local communities in Montreal and Winnipeg. These in turn will help the global community work towards an international pause on the development of frontier AI models.
Theory of Impact
Updated 07/17/26 · By grantmaking.aiThis trip would allow three members of PauseAI Canada (including the National Leader) to network with other members of the PauseAI global community. We will share knowledge and skills and form connections to organize future actions. As a result, we will be better able to inform the public about AI risks, inspire them to take action, and channel their energies towards the most impactful measures.
We believe we are at a critical time in the development of AI, and how society responds will depend to a great extent on the organizations that are available to educate and organize them. The field of AI and associated threats are so new, and changing so quickly, that we can't solely rely on pre-existing - or slowly-emerging - government institutions to rise to the occasion. This is why groups like PauseAI are so vital right now, and why PauseCon 2026 in particular is a potentially pivotal event for coordinating a global response to the threat of AI on a grassroots level.
As three of the most active members of PauseAI Canada, we believe we could both provide valuable contributions to the event, and gain important skills, knowledge, and connections, all of which will help the mission to reduce the global risk from AI.

I think it would be very valuable to have organizers from PauseAI Canada attend PauseCon.
Previous PauseCons have demonstrated that local chapters often get a big boost from attending the conference.
After PauseCon London, PauseAI Germany came away from the event with renewed purpose and went on to organize a petition signed by 150 German professors.
PauseCon Brussels initiated a new PauseAI chapter in Belgium and inspired PauseAI Czech and other European chapters to begin lobbying MEPs to support AI safety.
